Our Services:

The services that we can provide include:

  • A sympathetic ear
  • Emotional support
  • Practical help
  • Support in court for witnesses, including a pre-trial visit to the court
  • Information about compensation, including assistance in completing forms
  • Information about Criminal Justice procedures
  • Information about other agencies which provide further specialist support

It does not matter whether the crime has been reported or not. The crime may have occurred some time ago - the full impact is often not felt until some time after the crime has been committed. Some people may require short term support, while others may need support over a longer period of time.

Victim Support is not able to provide financial assistance or professional counselling.

Witness Service

Attending court as a witness can be a worrying experience. The Witness Service exists to help people through the judicial process.

The Witness Service offers:

  • A court based service
  • Pre-court visits
  • Emotional support
  • Practical help e.g. with expense forms
  • Information on court procedures
  • Someone to talk to in confidence
  • To be available after giving evidence
  • To listen to concerns/anxieties
  • Information on other services
  • Trained volunteers to help you during your time in court

Volunteers are available at the Kirkwall Sheriff court to support victims, witnesses, families and friends.

Sponsor a volunteer

Victim Support depends totally on the commitment of its volunteers. Increasing demand for our service means we need to recruit and train new volunteers every year.

Volunteer sponsorship is a way that your company can support the work of Victim Support in your local area or across Scotland, by directly contributing to the costs of recruiting, training and supporting volunteers.
